Aliwan Fiesta-The Philippines’ Festival of Champions

By my reckoning, I was able to save a lot of moolah last night. You see, I was able to do some serious festival hopping sans the airline/bus ticket and hotel cost, thanks to Aliwan Fiesta — The Philippines’ Festival of Champions. Where else can you experience the truly exquisite floats and dancers garbed in brightly-colored costumes moving to the festive rhythm of sounds of the country’s well-known festivals all in one night? And with 18 (yes, 18!) festivals competing for the Best in Festival Costume and Streetdance, it was a festival overload alright!

This year’s Aliwan Fiesta featured the spectacular performances of the following festivals:

Ibon Ebon Festival of Candaba, Pampanga
Zamboanga Hermosa Festival of Zamboanga City
Singkaban Fiesta: Desposorio ng Malolos
Sosogon Festival of Sorsogon City
Kapamagayon Festival of Sultan Mastura, Maguindanao
Calacatchara Festival of Calaca, Batangas
Alimudan Festival of Esperanza, Sultan Kudarat
Iloilo Dinagyang Festival of Iloilo City (Tribu Pan-ay) Best in Festival Costume and Streetdance
Kadayawan Festival of Davao City
Uswag Surallah Lembuhong Festival of Surallah, South Cotabato
Halamanan Festival of Guiguinto, Bulacan
Padang-Padang Festival of Parang, Maguindanao
Panagbenga Festival of Baguio City
Kalilangan Festival of General Santos City
Boling-Boling Festival of Catanauan, Quezon
Iloilo Dinagyang Festival of Iloilo City (Tribu Pantat)
Pakalog Festival of Santolan, Pasig City
